MODULE 01

In this module, we are asked to photograph, scan, draw and render croissants, while clearly showing the elevations, plan and sections of the croissant. The module places emphasis on modes of representation, such as photography, which can change the way we perceive the world. It also underscores the fact that representation is highly subjective and can take an infinite number of forms.

The utilisation of orthographic projection in this module highlights the importance of clarity in representation, as it allows architects to depict three-dimensional forms on a two-dimensional surface.

I explore the irregular structure and form of the croissant through its short and long elevations, plan, and three sections. This is reinforced through the axonometric drawing, which, despite repudiating the rules of perspective, facilitates accurate measurements and promotes a deep understanding of the croissant's volumetric relationships.

In addition, the external texture of the croissant is portrayed through rendering. The hatching technique with pen and pencil adds depth to the two-dimensional drawing and illustrates its tactile surface. â€‹

Finally, it is important to note that this exercise is purely visual. Without the smell of the buttery croissant, without the sound of its crisp surface crinkling under pressure, without the texture of its soft interior, and without the taste of its deliciousness, the croissant cannot be truly represented.
